The Arizona Music Scene
If you're an
instrumental guitar
fan, don't miss out on
Jimmy
Caterine. He's just
released a new album and old fans won't be disappointed!
Free MP3s at his
webpage!
If you're in the Phoenix area, you'll want to check out
the Stray
Dog Society. Their
distinctive jazz- and folk- influenced guitar sound
works great in a rock setting and they always manage to
make a scene! They play mostly original material
but we have caught them playing select cover tunes as
well.
One Foot in the
Grave, the World's Oldest
Living Punk Band, is alive and well in Sun City,
AZ. Last sighted a few months ago, they angrily
took over a club and absolutely trashed the place!
Punk rockers never die, they just piss off.
And
don't forget the
Arizona Music
Club, who runs the
Arizona Music Webring!
They seem to be a friendly bunch and we visit their
forums from time to time, where you can keep up with
promotional tips as well as general gossip.
Gaming
Don't want to get sucked in by the Evil Empire™,
that conglomerate of huge, faceless corporations that make you pay and pay and
pay? Then check out the
FREE and independent
Hunters Association,
who has recently set up new servers and is using some of our songs in the game!
We Get a Lot of Our Gear
Here!
We get a fair bit of stuff from
zZounds.com,
like our
MAudio Audiophile 2496 soundcard. This
affordable ($150) little thing has
analog I/O RCA jacks, 24-bit 96kHz
conversion, S/PDIF I/O, and MIDI I/O!
zZounds.com
is also good for mundane things like cables. The selection and prices are excellent and their web
site actually has a clue, making it easy to browse and
find equipment.
Computer Stuff
Are you still trusting Microsoft's Explorer to be
your browser? Shame on you! Try
Mozilla's
Firefox. It's free AND it's faster, safer,
and more customizable than
MS Exploder. It's also open source!
My all-time favorite open-source freeware:
KeyNote. As an information junkie, this
information organizer is a MUST! I use
KeyNote's nested/hierarchical system to store
writing ideas, films to see, snippets of text for
research along with their URLs -- you name it -- all
classified in a beautifully simple, flexible, and
wonderfully intuitive work tool. Powerful,
elegant, really useful freeware.
